Do You Know What Influences The Price Of A Gemstone?

I just unswered this question different times here: how is it possible that I have relatively low prices if I sell semiprecious gemstones? It's not because they are not natural or something similar. These stones are natural, are not false and not imitations (if so, I write about it: see description of Opalite). These stones have relatively low prices because have defects compared with the gems of high price.

What are these defects? Here is an example to explane you the situation: A fragment of the rock containing mineral has the central part very pure, of very high quality. If we look at this fragment with attention we notice that this pure part is little normally. More far we mve from this pure center, more differences with it we find there: inserts, less transparation, color, splits... All thee are defects. It is the same stone, the same mineral but it has some differences with the central part. Central part is what costs too much because for it's purity, it's clear.

The "refuses" of our fragment, the same mineral, as said, but with "defects" are much more large. They were thrown out before. Today all we understood what is a stone, we all dream diamonds, perls ecc, we want to heal ourself with stones, to make massages with stones. And the vendors abided by our dreams.

But we did not became more rich we only became more informated as earlier. That is why arrived falses and imitations in the commerce but the natural stones too. Those "refuses" we spoke about here, the stones of lower quality as high cost gems. That is why we have lower prices and great offer of cheap gemstones today.

The problem remains the same: false gemstones -because there are not great fragments of minerals in the nature, for example, as in the case of turquoise -to remember one of the most popular falses. Not always is the vendor that sells you the false stone. There are cases when even the most experts can't distinguish them. So, if you want to understand if you have a diamond or synthetic material: synthetic becomes dirty easily. The real diamond remains clean for more time. I don't know if it's true, but I need to wash my zircons really very often.

Well, what are the qualities of a precious gem? There is a rule of "4C":Color, Clarity, Cut, Carat. The first 2 are expressed with the numbers. Lower is the number -higher is the quality of the gem. For example the diamond with numbers 3/3 is good. 9/12 will say you that the stone is of low quality. Than there are rules of good cut for gemstones of high quality. Because the gem has better brillance if cuted in this way. If the stone had defects and could not be cuted right because of internal defects, the brillance is worse and the price is lower. Finally the weight of the stone has not necessity to be explained.

What is carat? It's the weight of seeds of a plant named Ceratoniae fructus (Fructus Ceratoniae). Once dryed all they have more or less the same weight, 0,2 gr. A diamond till 0,3 carat is very little. 1 carat is medium. Normally the weight of the diamonds is expressed with the number with 2 figures after comma: 35,74.
